When he speaks her name like that Era knows she's doing well. Her tail wags behind her, which is the only visible acknowledgement Ardbert gets that she's heard him... The other acknowledgement he gets is an increase of suction and a playful flick of her tongue against his nipple.
He can also tell from the subtle shifts in her weight when her tail wags. Ardbert's felt it often enough. Usually because of him.
